National Protection and Rescue Directorate is an independent, professional and administrative organization in the Republic of Croatia with a duty to prepare, plan and manage the operational forces and coordinates the activities of all participants of protection and rescue system.

VISION - NPRD (DUZS) as the leading organization protection and rescue system of people, assets and the environment in the Republic of Croatia, suitable for the needs of modern society. 

MISSION - To establish and maintain a modern system protection and rescue system in Croatia, using all available resources and will be able to respond to needs in the protection of people, property and the environment from threats, facilitating suffering and other challenges of modern society and to the need to provide assistance to each other or to receive help from other countries.

Main tasks:
  • Performs the assessment of risks of disasters and major accidents to the field, cause or entity, and is responsible for drafting the assessment of vulnerability and protection and rescue plans of local and territorial (regional) self-government 
  • Preparation required guidelines for the management guidelines for risk management and rescue
  • Monitor and analyze the situation in the field of protection and rescue and propose to the Croatian Government measures to improve the situation and guide the development of the system of protection and rescue
  • The unique information system collects, analyzes and directs information about threats and consequences of disasters and major accidents
  • Is a single information database on operational forces, means and measures taken in the field of protection and rescue
  • Propose to the Croatian Government risk assessment and plan of protection and rescue of Croatian
  • Performs the preparation, construction and maintenance of public warning
  • Performing regular duties of 112
  • Concern about the organization, training and equipping the operating forces
  • Performs inspections of operational power
  • Delivers training and development programs, and enabling participants to learn and improve protection and rescue
  • Organizes and conducts exercises participants rescue, in order to verify their qualifications
  • Holder is drafting bylaws and standard operating procedures
  • Suggests the types and amounts of state commodity reserves necessary for the protection and rescue
  • Examine the equipment and resources to protect and rescue, identifies needs and submit a proposal for the adoption of Croatian standards in this area
  • Collaborates with industry and academic institutions in the development of technology and equipment for protection and rescue
  • Cooperate with the competent authorities of other countries and international organizations in the protection and rescue
  • Performs advertising and publishing activities in the field of protection and rescue

Tasks in major accidents and disasters:
  • Issued mandatory guidelines for the management guidelines for risk management and rescue
  • Implements the mobilization of departments and units of the Board and the operational and rescue forces
  • Coordinate, manage and direct operational command of forces in disasters and major accidents
  • Directs and coordinates the activity of operational forces in the field of protection and rescue
  • Performs tasks of informing and alerting the population and coordinate unique alert system in Croatia
  • Performs inspections of operational power
  • Cooperate with the competent authorities of other countries and international organizations in the protection and rescue, in order to provide and accept international assistance and joint action
  • Providing information to the public.
